TOPIC: Too many Indian restaurants in Cary-Morrisville

Too many Indian restaurants in Cary-Morrisville 8 years 6 months ago #27587

With some two dozen Indian restaurants between them, the towns of Cary and Morrisville are already the area’s undisputed hub of the cuisine. The three latest additions to the roster further solidify that status, adding to the variety as well as the sheer number of options.

Bawarchi Biryani Point (9601 Chapel Hill Road, Morrisville; 919-439-7070; bawarchimorrisville.com) is the first North Carolina location of a small but rapidly growing national chain. As the name suggests, the specialty is Hyderabadi biryani, but the extensive menu draws on regional cuisines all over the subcontinent.

The restaurant opened simultaneously with an Indian supermarket called Spices Hut in Park Place Shopping Center, sharing a building most recently occupied by a Chinese mega-buffet. Judging by the standing-room-only opening crowd over the weekend, Bawarchi already has a strong following.

Nazara Indian Bistro (1945 High House Road, Cary; 919-694-5353; nazaranc.com) represents the realization of a longtime dream for childhood friends Mangal Singh and Shatman Singh, who have talked for years about opening a restaurant together.

Now both are veteran restaurateurs, and after careers that never quite let them join forces, they’re looking forward to opening Nazara together on Aug. 17, pending inspections. If the menu bears more than a passing resemblance to the stylish contemporary take on northern Indian fare at Azitra, that could be because both partners have operated locations of that restaurant — one in North Raleigh, the other in Colorado.

By the end of the month, if all goes according to plan, the owners of Masala Wrap (9825-F Chapel Hill Road, Morrisville; masalawrap.com) hope to open its doors.

The counter service restaurant will offer a selection of wraps, salads and rice bowls with an East-West fusion twist that partner Kunal Prikh says will be an entirely new concept for the Triangle. Until the website goes live, you can track Masala Wrap’s progress on Facebook (facebook.com/masalawrap).
