TOPIC: Good Airline from Mumbai,India to Raleigh, NC.

Friends,

I am looking out for Flights from Mumbai, India to Raleigh, NC. Since, this is my first time i have absolutely no idea about the international airlines. I have been advised to go for Air India, Is it a good airline? How about United / American / Delta?

Further, i am accompanied with my wife and kid (5 yrs), so which flights are preferred, long route or short route?

Please share your experiences / lessons learnt this will help me reach at a stage.

There are 2 kinds of routes available from Mumbai to Raleigh.

1. Direct to RDU via London - which would be primarily American Airlines (aa.com) (for London/RDU) / Jet Airways (for Mumbai/London) - Immigration would be done at RDU (your port of entry)

2. Indirect to RDU via New York (like United,Air India, or other airlines) - Mumbai to New York (Immigration @ New york) and then connecting domestic flight from NY to RDU.

While the first part of the travel from Mumbai is pretty good, the domestic (or even London/RDU) is at most OK by any standards.

Being your first time,
- Try not to carry any spices or edible food, almost everything is available here in local Indian grocery stores.
- Carry all your Visa papers including your appointment letter etc

It is very easy to complete immigration process in Raleigh compare to Newyork.

given the information you have provided, the airline doesn't matter. besides, if it turns out to be a bad experience, look at the bright side... all future flights will be bliss.

IIRC, there are no additional checks at London airport.

Also, while the ATers can give you recommendations, you have to make the final call - something you have to learn over here - to take your own decisions

yes, there are intra-terminal security checks. when you are changing flights at heathrow, and have to change terminals, you are subject to a security check along with your cabin baggage. the usual rules apply... no liquids greater than 3 fl oz, no guns, yada yada, etc.

if you have a tight connection, change your terminals before you sit down for a bite, etc. since the security checks have long queues at times and it is better to have it out of the way. also, the airlines may have an additional check for which there may be another long line. this is to re-verify your papers for landing in the usa.
