Hi Ranjitha,

I thought everyone is out for long weekend, so I didn't post anything. Here is today's puzzle. It's an easy one:

PASSWORD:

A man wanted to enter an exclusive club but did not know the password that was re quired. He waited by the door and
listened.A club member knocked on the door and the doorman said, "twelve." The member replied, "six " and was
let in.A second member came to the door and the doorman said, "six." The member replied, "three" and was let in.The man
thought he had heard enough and walked up to the door. The doorman said ,"ten" and the man replied, "five.
"But he was not let in. What should have he said?

Re:NEW PUZZLE 14 years 9 months ago #1249

i see, there is only possibility of the right answer to be 3 if 5 is wrong. 5 is calculated on basis of dividing the number in half. we get the number of alphabets in those words, twelve, six and ten as 6,3 and 3 respectively. So, the answer is 3.

Logu,

3 is the answer. But there could be multiple solutions.

Do you make these puzzles or copy it from a book?

A

yes. Mr.A and Rupa, both are correct. I didn't make any puzzles, these are the puzzles I solved some time back from some sources :)

I was bit late today. here is today's puzzle:

You have three boxes of fruit. One contains just apples, one contains just oranges, and one contains a mixture of both. Each box is labeled -- one says "apples," one says "oranges," and one says "apples and oranges." However, it is known that none of the boxes are labeled correctly. How can you label the boxes correctly if you are only allowed to take and look at just one piece of fruit from just one of the boxes?

Since all the boxes are labeled incorrectly:

1) Box labeled "apples and oranges" can be either "apples" or "oranges"
2) Box labeled "Apples" can be either "orange" or "apples and oranges"
3) Box labeled "orange" can be either "apples" or "apples and oranges"

steps:
--- Look at the box labeled "apples and oranges", if it contains, say orange, we can label it orange. Now we have correctly labeled orange....
--- Now look at the box labeled "Apples", it can not be orange since we already have orange....so it is "apples and oranges both"
--- that leaves us with box labeled "orange"....which is actually the box containing apples....

So by looking at "apples and oranges", we can label all the boxes correctly....Is this correct?
