oh. See 2 or 3 posts before.

FAMOUS EINSTEIN PUZZLE

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage.

The question is: Who owns the fish?

Hints:

* The Brit lives in the red house.
* The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
* The Dane drinks tea.
* The green house is on the left of the white house.
* The green homeowner drinks coffee.
* The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
* The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
* The man living in the center house drinks milk.
* The Norwegian lives in the first house.
* The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
* The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
* The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
* The German smokes prince.
* The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
* The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water.

Einstein wrote this riddle early during the 19th century. He said 98% of the world could not solve it. So who is in the other 2% here ?

Let's start the discussion.

Here is the solution :

1. Norwegian lives in the first house and next to blue house.
Order of house : Norwegian(color unknown), Blue, X, Y Z

2. The green house is on the left of the white house.
Order of house1 : Norwegian(color unknown), Blue, Green, White, Z
Order of house2 : Norwegian, Blue, Z, Green, White.

3. The man living in the center house drinks milk.
4. The green home owner drinks coffee.
5. The Brit lives in the red house
Therefore, Green house is not at the center.
Order of houses based on color : Yellow, Blue, Red, Green, White.
Nationality : Nor, N1 , Brit, N2, N3.

6. The Dane drinks tea.
Therefore he is not in the Green house, therefore he should be in either Blue or white house.
7.The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8.The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
9.The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
Norwegian smokes Dunhill and the Blue house owner has Horse. Therefore Swede is not in the Blue house.

10. The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
11. The German smokes prince.
Therefore German and Norwegian doesn't drink beer. Brit- Milk, Dane - Tea. Therefore Swede smokes Bluemaster, drinks beer and keeps dog as pet. From the other combination we can conclude that Swede is in White house. This makes Dane to be in the Blue house and German to be in Green house. Also German drinks coffee, this makes Norwegian to drink water.

Color : Yellow , Blue , Red, Green, White
Natio : Norwegian, Dane, Brit, German, Swede
Cigar : Dunhill, C1, C2, Prince, Bluemaster
Beverage : Water , Tea , Milk, Coffee, Beer
Pet : Horse, Dog,

12. The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water.
The neighbour to the person who drinks water is Dane.

13. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
This has to be British.
Color : Yellow , Blue , Red, Green, White
Natio : Norwegian, Dane, Brit, German, Swede
Cigar : Dunhill , Blend, Pall Mall, Prince, Bluemaster
Beverage : Water , Tea , Milk, Coffee, Beer
Pet : Horse, Birds, Dog,

14. The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
This has to be Norwegian. Finally German has the FISH.

Color : Yellow , Blue , Red, Green, White
Natio : Norwegian, Dane, Brit, German, Swede
Cigar : Dunhill , Blend, Pall Mall, Prince, Bluemaster
Beverage : Water , Tea , Milk, Coffee, Beer
Pet : Cat , Horse, Birds, FISH :), Dog,

Re: NEW PUZZLE 14 years 8 months ago #1180

The one with number 1 will be left at the end.
First all the even numbered soldiers die. Then, the 999 guy kills 1000 soldier and then give the sword to number 1.
Now, the odd numbered sequence starts. so every 2nd odd number is killed and this leaves 1 behind.
The sequence of soldiers killed in 2nd round is,

3 7 11 15 19 23 27 31 35 39 43 47 51 55 59 63 67 71 75 79 83 87 91 95 99

I think Mr. Red is saying the truth.

If Mr. Red is lying, then Mr. blue, green and yellow must be true.

Since 3 statements must be false, Mr. Red is saying the truth.

NEW PUZZLE 14 years 8 months ago #1210

NEW PUZZLE

A group of four people has to cross a bridge. It is dark, and they have to light the path with a flashlight.
No more than two people can cross the bridge simultaneously, and the group has only one flashlight. It takes different
time for the people in the group to cross the bridge. When two people together goes through the bridge, the time taken by them to cross the bridge is the time taken by the person with highest crossing time:

A crosses the bridge in 1 minute,
B crosses the bridge in 2 minutes,
C the bridge in 5 minutes,
D crosses the bridge in 10 minutes.

What is the minimum time in which they can cross the bridge.........???

Re:NEW PUZZLE 14 years 8 months ago #1216

A and B goes first and B returns (2min + 2min)
C and D goes and A returns (10min + 1min)
A and B now again crosses the bridge (2min)

So, totally it takes, 2+2+10+1+2 = 17 min for everyone to cross the bridge.
